The place of residence (watan al-iqama)

Question

This humble servant has for some time been living in Hardoi together with [his] family with the intention of a long stay. In between, because of certain necessary matters, I also have to travel to [my] homeland and elsewhere. Sometimes I have to stay in Hardoi continuously for more than fifteen days, and sometimes less. A certain gentleman told me that in Hardoi I am a traveller. How should I perform the prayer? What is my status in Hardoi?

Answer

In the present situation, since you have neither made Hardoi your original homeland (watan asli) nor abandoned your original homeland, Hardoi is for you a place of residence (watan al-iqama). As long as there is no intention of staying [there] at least fifteen days, you will remain a traveller here, and all the rulings of a traveller will apply to you.
