Sajda al-Tilawa upon Hearing a Verse of Prostration on the Radio
Question
If a reciter recited a verse of sajda al-tilawa at a radio station and thousands of people in the world heard this verse on the radio, has the sajda al-tilawa become obligatory upon all the listeners — given that the voice was conveyed by means of a machine? What is the difference between the gramophone and [this] machine?
Answer
By hearing the verse of prostration on the radio, the sajda al-tilawa will become wajib upon the listeners, because this has been deemed the voice of the reciter himself. As for the sound that comes out of a gramophone, it has been written that it is a copy and reflection of the recitation.
