A word of al-Hamd omitted in a fard recitation and the imam took the prompt: is sajda al-sahw wajib?
Question
In a fard prayer, in the first or second rak‘a, one word of Surat al-Fatiha was omitted by the imam, and he performed sajda al-sahw: is the prayer valid or not? He recited the first three verses correctly [but] omitted “iyyaka” (إِيَّاكَ), or one [word] “al-sirat al-mustaqim” — did the prayer become valid through the prompting or not? Or [else]: is reciting Surat al-Fatiha in the first two rak‘as of the prayer fard or wajib?
Answer
If in Surat al-Fatiha, in the first or second rak‘a, one or two words were omitted by the imam, and a follower prompted him and the imam recited it, or [the follower] did not prompt [and] the imam performed sajda al-sahw, then the prayer is valid. Reciting Surat al-Fatiha in the first and second rak‘as of a fard prayer is wajib.
