A follower omitted the first sitting by forgetfulness
Question
In congregation, at the time of the first sitting, a man stood up from the prostration by forgetfulness; while the imam recited the tashahhud in the first sitting, this man remained standing, and then, when the imam stood up, he also performed ruku‘ with the imam — that is, he as it were did not perform the first sitting. Is this follower’s prayer valid or not?
Answer
His prayer is valid. The first sitting was omitted; a follower’s omitting a wajib by forgetfulness does not make sajda al-sahw necessary (lazim).
