Intending two rak‘as and praying three or four: the details

Question

(1) If someone made the niyya for two rak‘as of tarawih and, omitting the qa‘da, prayed a third and a fourth rak‘a, performed sajda al-sahw and gave the salam, what is the ruling? (2) If someone made the niyya for two rak‘as of tarawih and, omitting the qa‘da, prayed a third and a fourth rak‘a and gave the salam without performing sajda al-sahw, what is the ruling? (3) 〃 having performed the qa‘da 〃 having performed the sajda 〃 (4) 〃 without performing sajda al-sahw 〃 (5)

Answer

(1) The prayer is valid, and the last two rak‘as count; the first two rak‘as became fasid (invalid). (2) The first two rak‘as count; the second two rak‘as must be repeated as a wajib because the sajda was omitted. (3) In this situation sajda al-sahw was not wajib; because of the needless addition of sajda al-sahw, karaha (dislikedness) has entered. (4)
