Sajda al-sahw in the Friday prayer
Question
If the imam makes a forgetful error (sahw) in the Friday prayer, does sajda al-sahw become necessary (lazim) for him or not? There is a well-known mas’ala that in the Friday and the two ‘Id prayers sajda al-sahw is dropped because of the large crowd (izdiham). What is the definition of a large crowd? If there are so many people with the imam that the imam’s voice is heard by everyone or by most, should he perform sajda al-sahw in that situation or not?
Answer
If the imam makes a sahw in the Friday prayer and the crowd is so great that the muqtadis cannot tell whether this salam is the one that ends the prayer or is for sajda al-sahw, and confusion (tashwish) arises among the muqtadis because of it, then the imam should not perform sajda al-sahw.
