Two Rakkats of Nafl after four Rakaats of Sunna Zuhr

Many people perform two voluntary rak‘ahs before the fard of Zuhr after completing the four sunnah and insist on doing so. Another person calls these two rak‘ahs a bid‘ah. Is there any explicit hadith or statement in fiqh books mentioning these two rak‘ahs? And is this practice considered a bid‘ah?

Answer

No specific mention has been found regarding performing these two voluntary prayers after the four sunnah before the fard of Zuhr. However, the books of hadith and fiqh strongly encourage increasing voluntary prayers (nawāfil). Therefore, it is not correct to call this practice a bid‘ah.
