What should be done if the imam falls asleep in the prayer?

Question

If the imam falls asleep in the first or the second sitting (qa‘da), should the muqtadis keep waiting for the imam, or is there some way of waking him? Please inform us. And what will be the consequence of the delay in a fard that occurs in the first sitting? Will the prayer become fasid or not?

Answer

He should be woken by saying “سبحان الله” (“Glory be to Allah”). If there is a delay in performing a wajib or a fard, the imam should perform sajda al-sahw.
