Finishing the salam and the takbirs before the imam

Question

It is widely held that if, in the congregation of the five daily prayers and the like, the muqtadis finish their takbirs and salam before the imam finishes the first takbir, the other takbirs and the salam, the prayer of the muqtadis will not be valid. Is this ruling correct or wrong?

Answer

If the muqtadi finished his takbir al-tahrima before the imam’s first takbir (the tahrima), his entry into the prayer is not valid. If the muqtadi completed his salam even before the imam said the word “السلام”, the prayer was not correct. As for the remaining takbirs, if he said them before the imam, the prayer did not become fasid, but it is makruh.
