Is adjusting one’s clothes with both hands an excessive action?

Question

If a person, while praying, lifts his clothing with both hands, what is the status of his prayer?

Answer

If he lifts it with both hands in such a way that an onlooker would think this person is not in prayer, the prayer will not be valid: this is an excessive action (‘amal kathir). With a slight action (‘amal qalil) the prayer remains valid.
