The masbuq following the imam in the salam of sajda al-sahw
Question
Zayd is a masbuq in a congregational prayer, and the imam had to perform sajda al-sahw (the prostration of forgetfulness). Zayd too, out of forgetfulness, gave the salam to the right side together with the imam and performed sajda al-sahw with the imam. After that the imam finished the prayer, and Zayd stood up and completed his remaining rak‘a. Did Zayd need to perform sajda al-sahw again, or should he have repeated (i‘ada) the prayer, or not? Explain and be rewarded.
Answer
In the case asked about, Zayd’s prayer is valid; there is no need to repeat it (i‘ada). In such a situation it is indeed necessary for the masbuq to perform sajda al-sahw with the imam, but following the imam in the salam for sajda al-sahw is impermissible. If he deliberately gives the salam with the imam, the masbuq’s prayer will become fasid (invalid)
