If the Imam Is Not a Scholar, Whom to Ask About a Ruling
Question
Zayd often does not pronounce even the words of the Qur’an clearly. What is the ruling on the imamate of such a person? And what is the ruling on asking such a person about a religious ruling in the future?
Answer
If the imam is not a scholar (‘alim), then the ruling should be asked of some scholar. Write in detail what error he makes in the words of the Qur’an; then the ruling will become known.
