The imamate of one who trims the hair on his chin, and the measure of the beard
Question
What is [the ruling on] praying behind a person whose chin hair is trimmed? And what length of beard is necessary?
Answer
It is not permissible to trim or shave the hairs that are part of the beard before they reach one fist-length; the imamate of an imam who does this is makruh. The beard should be kept one fist-length: until it reaches one fist-length, it is not right to trim it. It is right to trim whatever exceeds one fist-length.
