The ‘Id khutba of a clean-shaven man
Question
Here the khutba of the two ‘Ids is read by a lawyer whose beard and moustache are shaved clean. The prayer is led by another, a respected hafiz, and the du‘a is made by a third, a lawyer. Is this arrangement permissible or not? Regarding the beard, the respected lawyer says that there is no condition of a beard for the khutba, and if one must be kept, we will keep a “seasonal” beard, that is, we will grow it a week before the khutba. The question is: what is [the ruling on] praying in this way?
Answer
What is good is that both tasks — the prayer and the khutba — be performed by one and the same person, although both tasks will be fulfilled even if two men perform them. If the respected lawyer, obeying the command of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, keeps a beard according to the Sacred Law, he will be deserving of a very great reward.
