A Sayyid Praying Behind a Non-Sayyid
Question
If [a man] is a scholar (‘alim) from a Sayyid family but not a qari (expert reciter) — he recites the Qur’an with some beauty of voice, [but] haltingly — while the qari is from some lowly family, is it correct for the Sayyid to pray behind this qari?
Answer
The following (iqtida’) will be valid. It is not the case that a Sayyid’s prayer behind a non-Sayyid is invalid despite the latter’s competence [for the imamate].
