The Imamate of One Who Has Undergone Sterilization

Question

Zayd is the imam of the mosque of his village. Some years ago Zayd, in accordance with a fatwa of the imam of the Congregational Mosque of Delhi, became castrated. People follow Zayd willingly or unwillingly. Is Zayd’s imamate correct and valid according to the Shari‘a or not? Will the people’s prayer be valid or not?

Answer

As for the imam about whose fatwa you have written: because of this fatwa, people stopped praying behind him himself and removed him from the imam’s place; but now he speaks publicly against his former fatwa.
