Repeating the Congregation Because of a Mutual Quarrel
Question
For some time there has been a dispute over dealings between Zayd on one side and ‘Amr and Bakr on the other, on account of which ‘Amr, Bakr and others, instead of a single Jumu‘a and congregation, separately establish two Jumu‘as and congregations in one and the same mosque, apart from the aforementioned imam Zayd. Upon this a non-Muslim called both parties and said to them: “Do not quarrel among yourselves; pray separately in the same mosque.
Answer
Repeating the congregation in one mosque is makruh tahrimi according to the Hanafis ﵏, so it is necessary to avoid it. [ar]ويكره تكرار الجماعة بأذان وإقامة في مسجد محلة[/ar] “And it is makruh to repeat the congregation with adhan and iqama in a neighbourhood mosque” (al-Durr al-Mukhtar). [ar]قال الشامي: قوله (ويكره)
