The wisdom of raising the hands

Question

A Shi‘i mujtahid stated that there is in a hadith of Ahl al-Sunna that in the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ people used to pray carrying idols in their sleeves, and the command came to pray with the hands let down. Is this the content of any hadith?

It would have been better had that poster been sent, so that its purpose might become clear: whether it is to declare these narrations unreliable and fabricated (mawdu‘), or to create distrust of the books, or to prove their own positions from the books mentioned, or to show that these people do not act on their own books, or something else — so that the answer might be…
