Raising the hands (raf‘ al-yadayn): the evidence against it
Question
Should one raise the hands (raf‘ al-yadayn) or not? If one should not, then please write the evidence for this: is a prohibition established anywhere or not?
Answer
In prayer there is no raising of the hands apart from the opening takbir (takbir al-iftitah): [ar]عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ قَالَ: قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ ﵁: أَلَا أُصَلِّي بِكُمْ صَلَاةَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ؟ فَصَلَّى فَلَمْ يَرْفَعْ يَدَيْهِ إِلَّا فِي أَوَّلِ مَرَّةٍ.
