A girl or a woman giving the adhan in the child’s ear in the delivery room
Question
If there is no man in the delivery room at the time of birth, may the women give the child’s adhan or not? And what is the ruling if a minor boy or girl gives it? If the child’s adhan is given in a state of janaba (major ritual impurity), will it be valid or not? Or is wudu’ necessary?
Answer
If no man is present in the delivery room at the time of birth, it is permissible for a woman to give this adhan and iqama. A discerning minor child may also give it. If there is no one, then the child’s mother too may give it, provided she is not in the state of nifas (post-natal bleeding).
