Appointing a professional itinerant beggar as mu’adhdhin
Question
What is the status of the adhan of a professional itinerant beggar who begs with a hand drum and a sarangi (an Indian bowed string instrument), and who, besides this, eats and drinks without any hesitation food [dedicated] to the name of other than Allah, and who, despite being forbidden both gently and sternly, does not desist from this practice?
Answer
This person should not be made the mu’adhdhin; his adhan is makruh. Also included in this are those who make a permanent profession of begging with a hand drum, a sarangi and the like, and those who eat nadhr offerings and the like [dedicated] to the name of other than Allah — that is, their adhan too is makruh.
