The Categories (Tabaqat) of Hadith Books

Question

Hazrat Shah ‘Abd al-‘Aziz, the muhaddith of Delhi, has set out the tiers [of hadith books] in his “‘Ajala Nafi‘a”. What are they? Kindly also explain the Hanafi position in light of the hadiths, and the practice of the noble Companions ﵃, and thereby obtain the reward of both worlds.

Hazrat Shah ‘Abd al-‘Aziz, the Hanafi muhaddith of Delhi, has set out the tiers of hadith books in his “‘Ajala Nafi‘a”; he took this subject from his venerable father, Hazrat Shah Waliullah, the Hanafi muhaddith of Delhi, who explained it in detail in Hujjat Allah al-Baligha.
