A Response to One Who Claims that Folding the Hands below the Navel Is Incorrect

Question

[It has been claimed that] during prayer, folding the hands below the navel is incorrect, while folding the hands on the chest is correct.

Answer

Here you have declared that folding the hands below the navel is incorrect — what is the proof (dalil) for this? Evidently you would not have issued this ruling on your own authority, nor engaged in any [personal] ijtihad; [mere] opinion (ra’y) has no place in a matter of religion. You must surely have hadiths for both claims, and they must be strong (qawi)
