No One in the Village Has Memorized the Qur’an

Question

There is not a single hafiz in our village. Zayd says that memorizing [the Qur’an] is fard kifaya, [so] all the people of this village are sinners. [Is this correct?]

Answer

It is a great deprivation that there is not even a single hafiz there; efforts should be made to draw attention to memorization [of the Qur’an].
