Is Memorizing the Holy Qur’an Beneficial or Harmful?

Bakr says: memorizing the entire Holy Word (Allah forbid the comparison) is like pouring perfume into a filthy drain — after memorization, neither is due reverence shown to the Holy Word nor is it retained in memory, and the responsibility for this lies with the teacher. Is it possible that the teacher will be held to account for this on the Day of Judgement?
