Writing Out the Qur'an Without Wudu

Question

What is the ruling on writing the Noble Qur'an without wudu?

Answer

If he writes while holding the paper in his hand, this is impermissible; but if he does not touch the paper with his hand — rather the paper rests on some support and only the pen moves over it — then it is makruh (disliked) (Hashiyat al-Tahtawi, p. 77).
