Suckling Takes Effect Even When a Child Is Breastfed by Mistake
Question
A woman named Faruq al-Nisa’, mistaking her grandson (her son’s son) for her daughter, took him onto her lap and breastfed him. After five or six minutes, or a little less, she looked and saw that it was not her daughter but her grandson; as soon as she realised this, she immediately took the grandson off. Can this grandson of Faruq al-Nisa’ now marry Faruq al-Nisa’’s granddaughter (her daughter’s daughter) or not?
Answer
This grandson has become the milk brother of all of Faruq al-Nisa’’s children, and has also become the milk brother of this granddaughter’s mother, and this granddaughter has become his milk niece (his sister’s daughter); marriage between the two of them is not permissible.
