Prohibition by Suckling from Merely Putting the Breast in a Child’s Mouth
Question
Sami‘ al-Nisa’ is the full paternal aunt of the girl ‘Asima. Sami‘ al-Nisa’ put her breast into the girl ‘Asima’s mouth in order to suckle her, and then took it out. Sami‘ al-Nisa’ says that ‘Asima did not drink her milk. In this situation, is the nikah of the girl ‘Asima with Sami‘ al-Nisa’’s son valid or not? Have Sami‘ al-Nisa’’s son and ‘Asima become milk brother and sister according to the noble Shari‘a or not?
Answer
If the milk did not go down the throat, then suckling has not been established by merely putting the breast in the mouth, and the girl in question has not become the milk sister of Sami‘ al-Nisa’’s son.
