A Wife’s Reply to Her Husband “I Will Not Repent”: Are Renewal of Faith and Renewal of the Nikah Necessary?
Question
A man, admonishing his wife over some sin, said: “Look, repent.” His wife is otherwise righteous, but at that moment she said jokingly: “I will not repent.” Then, as soon as she had said it, she at once felt remorse and repented. Can some defect enter her faith (iman) because of this incident and affect the nikah, or not? Or will she only be sinful?
Answer
If the husband spoke about some particular sin, saying: “Repent of this sin,” and the wife had not committed that sin, and the wife said: “I will not repent,” then no defect will enter her faith because of this.
