Reviling the Matchmaker When a Marriage Match Goes Wrong
Question
The matter is this: whether a girl’s match is made or a boy’s match is made, and those new relatives turn out to be bad, and things go wrong from the girl’s side or from the boy’s side, then people revile the go-betweens (matchmakers) and curse their children. Thus two to four matches that were made did not turn out well, and it came to discord. Now the matchmaker says: “The pairing of a couple is from Allah.
Answer
The pairing is decreed by Allah Most High, and in this world it merely becomes manifest. Whoever, with good intention and out of goodwill, becomes an intermediary between the parties and makes efforts is deserving of reward and recompense. If afterwards there is no harmony, then reviling the matchmaker is wrong.
