Tying the Sehra

Question

Is it permissible or not to tie the sehra (wedding garland veil) on the occasion of a wedding, or on other than a wedding? Please set out both sides, the affirmative and the negative, with evidence.

Answer

Tying the sehra is originally a Hindu custom which has survived in ignorant or non-practising Muslim families of India as a result of mixing with them. It is necessary to abandon it.
