A Red Outfit for the Bride at the Wedding
Question
In some places the custom is that at a wedding, from the husband’s side, a complete red outfit is prepared for the bride, that is, the headscarf, trousers and shirt are all of red colour only. On the day the wedding takes place, the woman is dressed in these very clothes. The matter to be clarified is: in this case, is this itself the more meritorious (afdal), or something else? Kindly write what is more meritorious.
Answer
This custom is “binding oneself to what is not binding” (iltizam ma la yalzam); I have not seen any explicit statement that it is more meritorious.
