Some Wedding Customs

Question: In our biradari (clan community), the community council of the Palkhan Tala neighbourhood of Saharanpur has laid down the following matters in this manner. (1) When anyone’s wedding takes place, the pre-wedding ceremony under a canopy is obligatory. The hosts of the wedding will be obliged, at the pre-wedding canopy ceremony, instead of feeding people at their own house, to deliver food to each person’s house — for old and young, men and women — by way of gift (hiba)

Answer

Adherence to the matters mentioned is not wajib on anyone according to the Shari‘a. In what Allah and His Messenger have forbidden, obeying the biradari or anyone else is not permissible: [ar]لا طاعة لمخلوق في معصية الخالق[/ar] “There is no obedience to a creature in disobedience to the Creator.” These matters are bid‘a (innovation in religion)
