Wedding Customs (Joining the Wedding Procession)

Question

Among us the custom of the groom’s wedding procession is practised at weddings: with a horse, the wedding outfit, a purse of money (?), the sehra (wedding garland), firecrackers, photography and the like, they go to the house of the girl’s family, and the nikah is announced by the firing of firecrackers; moreover, the sehra (wedding poem) is recited with the word “sehra” expressly pronounced.

Answer

Nikah is a ruling of the Sacred Law which, for the fulfilment of the sunna, should be performed in the transmitted (ma’thur) manner. What you have asked about is a collection of superstitions and wrong customs that does not deserve to be adopted. Joining such a wedding procession is also wrong. It should be avoided completely.
