Marrying the Son of a Woman Who Had Left Her Husband

Question

Question: ‘Abd al-Jabbar was married to Wahida. Some time later discord arose between them. Because the girl was caused a great deal of suffering, the girl’s family came and took her away. Then, from the girl’s side, the question of a divorce deed arose; many times there were requests and replies and talks, but the young man was neither ready to give talaq nor willing to keep the girl. After that the young man went to Calcutta in connection with his work. Some time later the girl was married to another man.

Answer

To investigate the lineage of the sons now is out of place and wrong: their lineage is established (thabit al-nasab). With your own consent and the girl’s, you may arrange your daughter’s match with whichever of them you consider suitable.
