Nikah of an Ahl-e Hadith Girl with a Deobandi Hanafi
Question
(1) If an Ahl-e Hadith girl is married (her nikah contracted) to a Hanafi Deobandi young man, does the girl retain the right to remain firm on her own creed (‘aqida) and school (madhhab) and to act accordingly, or not? Does a Deobandi Have the Right to Force His Ahl-e Hadith Wife to Change Her Creed? (2) Can an Ahl-e Hadith girl remain the wife of a Hanafi Deobandi young man without changing her creed and school, or not?
Answer
Between the Hanafi Deobandis and the Ahl-e Hadith there is disagreement in secondary (furu‘) issues: raising the hands (raf‘ al-yadayn), saying “amin” aloud, tawarruk (sitting on the hip in tashahhud), qunut, the number of rak‘as of witr, the number of rak‘as of tarawih, Jumu‘a in villages, recitation behind the imam and the like.
