Combining Two Sisters in Nikah
Question
A certain man who is righteous and pious, and who also prays, and who is now about fifty years old, is keeping two full sisters in nikah together. From one wife he has had many children, but he now neither has intercourse with this first wife nor eats the food she cooks. With the second wife, from whom he has also had two or three children, he has intercourse. In short, he has been absorbed in this haram act for a long time. Is it permissible to eat at the house of such a man, when he is doing this deliberately?
Answer
Combining two sisters in nikah is haram, by the words of the Exalted: [ar]حُرِّمَتْ عَلَيْكُمْ أُمَّهَـٰتُكُمْ… إلى قوله تعالى: وَأَن تَجْمَعُوا۟ بَيْنَ ٱلْأُخْتَيْنِ[/ar] “Forbidden to you are your mothers… — up to His words: — …and that you combine two sisters” (Surah al-Nisa’, 4:23).
