Marrying a Muslim Girl to a Young Man of Another Religion

Question

A photograph of a wedding is being sent to you. Should such Muslim parents be called Sikhs or Muslims, who have gladly handed over their daughter to a young man of another religion (through a civil marriage)? Kindly inform us of the Shar‘i ruling.

Answer

Marrying a Muslim girl to a person of another religion is categorically haram. This is not nikah but fornication and zina. A father who marries off his daughter in this way is devoid of a sense of honour and a dayyuth (one who has no protective jealousy over his wife or mahram).
