The Nikah of a New Muslim

Question

Zayd’s son ‘Umar is a Christian; Bakr’s daughter Farida is a Muslim and an adult. If ‘Umar accepts the religion of Islam, can Farida’s nikah with ‘Umar take place or not?

Answer

It certainly can, but one should also make sure that this acceptance of Islam is not merely for the sake of the nikah — lest after the nikah the girl’s religion too be ruined.
