Nikah during postnatal bleeding (nifas)

Question

(1) Zayd contracted a nikah with a woman while she was in the state of nifas (postnatal bleeding), and the child in her lap was 26 days old. Is the nikah valid in this state or not? (2) What is the minimum duration of nifas? When, after the end of nifas, does a nikah become valid?

Answer

(1) If this woman’s husband died before the child was born, or divorced her (gave talaq), then her 'idda ended when the child was born. Nikah in the state of nifas is valid, but intercourse is not permissible: for that one will have to wait for the nifas to end. And if she was pregnant without marriage, the nikah is valid in that case too. (2)
