Nikah during nifas and menstruation

Question

Is nikah during nifas (postnatal bleeding) permissible or impermissible, and is nikah during menstruation (hayd) permissible or impermissible?

Answer

In the case asked about, renewal of the nikah (tajdid al-nikah) is valid both in the state of menstruation and in the state of nifas; and apart from the case asked about, menstruation and nifas are likewise no impediment to nikah, provided the woman is not in 'idda. Being in 'idda, however, is an impediment to nikah.
