Nikah When Offer and Acceptance Are Made in a State of Trembling

Question

The nikah of a student of religious knowledge took place in the sunna manner, by offer and acceptance in the presence of two witnesses. Two or three days after the nikah this student said: “When my nikah began with the sunna sermon, a trembling at once came over my whole body, because of which my mind was not present at the moment, and when the agent (wakil) mentioned the name of the girl — hers and her father’s — I was not aware of anything. But when the agent said, ‘Do you accept?

Answer

If at the time of the nikah sermon the senses were not sound, but everything had been settled beforehand, and at the time of accepting the senses had also become sound and the acceptance came about with understanding — whether he accepted himself or the agent did — then the nikah is valid.
