Holding a staff during the Eid sermon

Question

Some books state that holding a staff in the hand during the sermon is recommended (mustahabb). However, Mawlana Ashraf ‘Ali Thanawi (رحمه الله) writes in the book “Behishti Gohar” (p.12) that holding a staff during the sermon is not reported. Which opinion is considered authoritative?

Answer

In the book “Behishti Gohar”, its author mentioned this issue based on al-Durr al-Mukhtar. However, Mawlana Ashraf ‘Ali Thanawi (رحمه الله) refuted this view in “Imdad al-Fatawa” (vol. 2) and preferred the other opinion. It should also be noted that “Behishti Gohar” is not authored by Mawlana Thanawi, but by another writer.
