Collecting donations during the Friday khutba

Question

(1) What is the purpose of the khutba of Jumu‘a and of the two Eids being sunna and legislated? (a) If its purpose is to teach or instruct this gathering in particular rulings of the Shari‘a relating to this day or this prayer, standing or sitting at the place of the khutba, then is it bid‘a (innovation in religion) to alter or change the time that has already been fixed for it by the Shari‘a, to bring it forward or put it back, or to introduce novelty in the manner of delivery? (b)

Answer

(1) Our purpose is the fulfilment of the command; as for what the Lawgiver’s purpose is — that lies in the knowledge of the Lawgiver. (a) No change should be made. (b) Acting contrary to the legislated manner is not permitted. (c) It is a universal rule. (d) Regarding as religion what is not religion is bid‘a. (e)
