Delivering the khutba in another mosque after praying Jumu'a

Question

Mahmud performed the Jumu'a prayer and the khutba. Afterwards, because there was no imam in another mosque, he delivered only the khutba there and did not lead the prayer. Is this Jumu'a khutba valid for the Jumu'a prayer or not?

Answer

I have not seen this particular case (juz'iyya) explicitly anywhere. However, [the jurists] do write that it is not necessary for the khatib and the imam to be one and the same person, though it is better (awla) that whoever delivers the khutba should also lead the Jumu'a.
