Standing for the Jumu‘a Prayer at “Hayya ‘ala al-falah”
Question
Should the muqtadis (followers) stand up for the Jumu‘a prayer as soon as the khutba ends, or wait for the imam to go to the prayer place and for the mukabbir to say the takbir (iqama)? What is the sunna method?
Answer
The basic rule is that one should stand when the mukabbir says “hayya ‘ala al-falah” (حي على الفلاح). However, the hadiths lay great emphasis on straightening the rows and also on not leaving gaps in between. And people are generally unacquainted with the rulings; therefore they should stand and straighten the rows even before the takbir (iqama)
