Hijra from India

Question

Question: If the Hindu majority, priding itself on the fact that power is in its hands, says to the Muslim minority: “If you wish to remain bound by the principles of your religion, Islam, then go off to your Pakistan. If you want to live here, adopt the religion of the Hindus. And if neither is acceptable to you, then your lives are in danger,” — what are the poor, helpless Muslims to do at such a time?

Answer

Changing one’s religion, that is, abandoning Islam and (Allah forbid) adopting kufr, is by no means permissible. Allah Most High has given life so that one may embrace Islam, remain upon it and spread it. So if life is given up for the sake of standing firm upon Islam and protecting it, that is the very essence of felicity and martyrdom (shahada).
