Conveying Reward by Reciting the Qur’an in the Graveyard
Question
Is it permissible or not to take the Qur’an to the graveyard and recite it oneself, or to have someone else recite it for payment?
Answer
Reciting the Qur’an oneself and making isal al-thawab, or having someone else recite it and conveying the reward [to the deceased], is correct and beneficial for the deceased. However, having it recited by giving payment is not permissible — it is a sin; taking the payment is also impermissible.
