Publishing isal al-thawab in a newspaper

Question

All of this — gathering in one place and reciting, gifting its reward and having it published in a newspaper — will it be riya’ (showing off) or not?

Answer

If the intention is that others be encouraged and they too take part in isal al-thawab, or [there is] some other good intention in accordance with the Shari‘a, then it does not fall under riya’. But if the aim is one’s own fame and greatness, then it certainly falls under riya’, and riya’ is impermissible.
