Distributing dried dates after burying the deceased

Question

After the burial of the deceased, dried dates or dates are distributed. What is the ruling on this act; does it have any basis or not?

Answer

Not at all; it is not established anywhere. Perhaps they imagine that the deceased has been wed (nikah) to the grave, and in that joy they distribute dried dates. This is ignorance.
